LETTER FROM THE AUTHOR |

Thank you so much for visiting the BigHeds’ website. I would like to take this time to share with you a story that I recently heard. "There was this day called the Award Ceremony for all of the seniors. This day was the day for those who were the best in English, who had perfect attendance, and were getting scholarships. So, all my dudes, we got C's and D+'s. I didn't care as long as I graduated. It never hit me until that day. I felt like the dumbest person. All of a sudden, we weren't so cool. I didn't get anything, but a diploma and I was much more intelligent than that. But all these kids that we called the "nerds" or "corny" were up on stage. Everybody was standing up, clapping. I'll never forget the girl with glasses. She got a full ride to OSU and is now a pharmacist, while all the "hot" girls were sitting in the back row with me. So, after you graduate and go to the party, then what? On that day, it was revealed that I wasn't all that cool." I think it is important for you to know that you should always BE and DO YOUR absolute BEST, regardless of what may be considered “cool” at the time. If kids tease you, smile and say, I have a plan. Then tell them something nice or give them a compliment. Be proud of who you are and what you can do. I want to assure you that it is most definitely cool to be intelligent, kind, obedient, helpful, giving, and hard-working. Don’t compare yourself to others, simply BE and DO your BEST. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t do or have something, because they don’t know. Only you know your limitation and you don’t know unless you try, and try and try. For, example if someone gives you the choice to study Arabic, Chinese, Japense, advanced math, science, and English classes, or join a club, participate in sports, music, dance, or art, do it! You may be great in it and if not you could become good with hard-work. Cool and beauty is in the eye of the beholder and since you have eyes, you behold. I have a challenge for you: Everyday in private, look in the mirror and tell yourself; I am beautiful/handsome. I am talented. I am intelligent. I am (as the BigHeds’ would say) Tacoola and I love being me! |
